Team/IMG_3652.JPGIroncoppers has been founded to allow police officers from all over the UK to compete in any kind of sporting event and raise money for Cancer Research UK. If you work for a police force and are either taking part or want to take part in events this year get in touch. It does not matter what event you are doing or how fit you are. No event is too big or small! It's all for a good cause so please get involved - Email contact@ironcoppers.com

Initially formed at the end of 2011 by a Surrey Police officer, the Ironcoppers team were set up with a few ideas to get us started.

The Ironcoppers started the year with some brave men and women  wallowing around in the mud at Longmoor Army Barracks with the Brutal 10 run. Four team members took on this challenging course.

Two teams successfully completed the Weavers Down Winter Warmer event on  Sunday 22nd January at Longmoor army camp which involved a run, cycle, run, kayak, run, cycle and finished off with a small obstacle course.

In February five team members took on the frozen Grim Night Terror which was a challenging trial run in the dark over the tank tracks of Aldershot army
camp.

Three current members of the Ironcoppers took part in the Police National Cross Country Championships at Guildford on 22nd February. A great event which saw forces all over the UK visiting Surrey to compete in the event held at Losely Park across a tough course in wet and windy conditions.

The Spring Ballbuster on 3rd March saw three team members start the event. Five laps of Boxhill near Dorking is a challenging event. The first eight mile lap is a run before you jump on your bike for three more laps before one final run. One brave Iron Copper made it around the course which includes climbing up the Zig Zag Road, part of the Olympic cycle route. Sadly a fractured collar bone and torn calf muscle prevented two of the team from finishing the event.

Jay Chapman and Katie Perry successfully completed the Brighton Marathon on 15th April and Steve Clancey completed the London Marathon on 22nd April in a very impressive 3 hours 15 minutes!

May sees the first attempt at a Triathlon with the East Grinstead sprint. For those preferring to stick to two wheels there is also a 147km cycle on the same day and at the end of the month a ride across the South Downs totalling 115 miles will be attempted
.

June is action packed with three proposed challenges. Firstly Hellrider, which is a team event over 8 hours where you ride and run alternatively to do as many laps as your team can manage. It is also the month that sees us continue the triathlons at Blenheim and Trentham
.

July and August sees the last of the "practice" triathlons firstly in Sussex and then on the South coast before we do "the big one" - Ironman Wales in September.

The rest of the year will then be a warm down with events such as Hellrunner and a few other little treats
.

Please click on the links tab to see all the events in full. The team have recently had our first photo shoot for publicity photos which can be seen on the photos page. Event photos will be posted after we have competed. The team all feel that this is a great opportunity to compete in events we may otherwise not worry about if we weren't doing it for such a worthy cause. So please dig deep, have a look at the links on the donate now page and give whatever you can to support us
.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our site and supporting our campaign!
